Hello, please forgive me for crashing onto your forum, but the case of Mark Wood is hitting a critical point. Mark died by starvation after his benefits were cut by Atos / DWP.
Marks family have won an appeal against the DWP which forced them to reverse the decision and should not have been declared fit for work. This is the first hurdle crossed. Stunningly, the DWP also deny a link between benefits cuts and Marks death, which is something I would like watch them sell to the great British public.
Personally, I feel that although this is welcome progress, it goes nowhere near the transparency that Marks family deserve. The petition, they tell me, is helping them pile some extra pressure on those that need to be more forthcoming.
I feel that this represents need for a full, public inquiry into the circumstances around Marks death so we can all hear the reasons why the DWP think that there is no link between Marks death and the stripping away of his benefits.
To quote from the Oxford Mail -
Now the DWP has written to the family saying it had “revised” its decision to cut Mr Wood’s benefits.
Last night a spokesman said: “The coroner attributed Mr Wood’s eating disorder and food phobia as the likely cause of his death, rather than his benefits being stopped. “However, after receiving new evidence from Mark Wood’s GP which was not presented at the first assessment, we have revised our original decision.
“We have written to Mr Wood’s family about this decision and are carrying out an internal review.” Mr Wood’s GP Nicolas Ward told February’s inquest he was an extremely vulnerable and fragile individual who was coping with life. He said: “Something pushed him or affected him in the time before he died and the only thing I can put my finger on is the pressure he felt he was under when his benefits were removed.”
This can bring the DWP and Atos into the legal firing line.
I started a petition calling for Atos & the DWP to be tried for corporate manslaughter for Marks death. It can be found at:

Please, if anyone would like to sign and share, that would be deeply appreciated, especially at this critical juncture. Thank you! Larry
